I was a bit worried that it was too rich, so many thanks for your favourite on this....good to have the encouragement. I keep wanting to do more subtle works, but usually end up with 'colourful' ones!

It looks like a watercolour painting that is rusting and peeling away which kind of reminds me of those paintings that people do on old saw blades... (I don't think one can paint watercolour on metal but we're not going to worry about that. hehehe.) What a wonderful present for your friend... :)

I think the texture gives it a "3d" feel. Also, I saw you were worried about using too much color. I worry about the same thing! My studio art teacher was looking through some slides of my pieces today and was like, "The art community would probably call you a 'colorist'. You use a lot of varying color in your work." I was so happy. XD
